Tidying up loose ends

Ah.

So it's Friday night (also St. Patrick's Day...which is a HUGE thing in Boston), and I'm sitting at home watching Extreme Makeover, Home Edition on TiVo and doing laundry. Wow. I'm a party animal. It's nice to relax though. It's bitter cold again, and I'm happy to stay inside where it's warm.

I'm going to post twice tonight - once to report on the happenings this week and once to finally report on my trip.

After I posted on Wednesday I went out to meet CK for a CCS wine tasting at Vinalia. As soon as we walked into the back room where the rest of our party was waiting for us, we realized that we were in for an uncomfortable evening.

Let me back up for a minute. CK and I belong to a cultural group. The group sponsors cultural events just about once a week in Boston - classical music performances, plays, wine tastings, fine dining, etc. We joined back in October or so and have attended a few events. It's always a great excuse for CK and I to get together and do something or go somewhere that we wouldn't normally. But the problem is that the past few events we've been to, have been attended by a bit of an older crowd and desirable mens have been absent.

When we walked into the room we saw 8 middle-aged women and two men. One of the men was the organizer of the cultural group and the other was someone who I had uncomfortably spoken to at the last wine tasting we went to at Nobu. He's a bit of an asshole. Lucky for me, my name was scrawled on a place card next to him.

We sampled four wines - two from California and two from France. We were also served a small piece of codfish and a piece of steak. The wine was good and the food was yummy, but the conversation was awkward. At one point one of the women turned to Male Companion (the organizer) and said that perhaps he should organize events for only older people. Ha. I don't think that comment was directed at CK and me at all. No, not at all. CK was sitting right next to me but texted me the following messages: "Save me!" "We are never doing this again." "Kill me now."

After I downed my last wine sample, CK and I escaped to the restaurant's bar and met up with her man and his friend. We had a few drinks with them and pretended not to notice as first the women from the tasting left, and second as Male Companion and Mr. Asshole noticed us and stood there talking about us for a few minutes. CK is right...we are never doing that again.

I made it back to Brighton a little after 10pm feeling quite tipsy from the wine I had at the bar. I passed by FP and saw coffee guy starting to close up. I popped in to say hi and ended up chatting with him for another 3hrs. Ack. It seems he and the gf are on a break right now. He made some comment like, "maybe this is the last time." Hmmm. I'm still crushing but am being careful.

Last night Vixen and I had another horrible class at MIT. I can't begin to explain how badly that class sucks. On the way home, there was a fight on the T. We were stopped for quite a while waiting for the cops to come. Luckily the fight was in a different car on the T. At one point we heard a guy outside the T say, "That fucking bitch. That fucking bitch. She touched my hair. What was I supposed to do?" Ummm, yeah. Next time someone touches my hair on the T I am going to go ape shit too. Vixen and I have decided two things. 1) We should stop talking, because our brains are already synched up. We think the same things. 2) A film crew should follow us around. It would probably make for interesting TV.

Today I spent hours editing and uploading pictures from my trip. I also had a yummy dinner with Sunshine.

Tomorrow the gals and I are going to see V for Vendetta. It should be fun. I can't believe that the semester is almost over! It freaks me out because I still have so much to do. But more than anything, it freaks me out that most of the friends I've made here will all be going off to different places. I don't know if I'm staying or going, but I know that even if I stay it won't be the same. Boo.
