Today was a really strange day.
I think I would have been better off if I had just stayed inside.
I started off the day by locking my keys (both apartment and car keys) in my apartment. This is one instance where living next door to my landlord is a really good thing. Luckily, she was home.
Once I finally had the key I needed to start my car and head towards campus, I rolled down my driveway and painfully scraped my car on the dip where the driveway meets the road.
I should have backed up right there.
I taught another awkward class. I also told a student that she needs to drop, because she now has an F in the class according to the university's attendance policy. It's only the end of September! How does someone already use up 9 absences? 9!
I rushed off campus to go meet a summer colleague for lunch at the university where Black Beauty works. On my way, I realized that I left my iPod in my desk drawer.
Lunch was pleasant enough, but Black Beauty was nowhere in sight. Damn. That's the second time I've been there since the summer ended, and neither time has produced any face-time with the fine man. The first time I didn't try to see him, but this time I was just thwarted.
After lunch I rushed off again, but this time it was for my doctor's appointment. I was excited at the prospect of finding out what is going on with this chronic fatigue I've been experiencing.
I was no longer excited once I realized that most of the people who work in the office are somewhat curt.
I was also no longer excited once the doc left me sitting alone with only my undergarments and a paper sheet to keep me company. He forgot about me. Seriously.
Aside from that, he was a nice enough guy. The whole paper sheet ordeal made me think about how the hospital dramas that I watch and love do not resemble real-life experience in the least bit. There were no McDreamy's or Kovac's running around.
Doc could find no physical symptoms that might explain my fatigue, so he sent me upstairs for a bunch of lab work. He threw around scary words like: rare cancers, lupus, Rocky Mount fever, and Lyme disease. Thanks doc. I don't think it's anything that serious, but I don't take comfort in the fact that 5 viles of blood were taken today in order to run all the tests. I'll take anemia for 1,000, please Alex.
Once I stopped by campus to retrieve my iPod on the way home from the appointment, I thought I was in the clear to head towards home.
Instead, I was foiled by some strange parade that had all the roads that I needed to take home blocked off. I kept turning corners, hoping to find an in, but no such luck. Over a half hour later, I was home.
I made dinner and contemplated a relaxing evening at home with my Grey's Anatomy dvds, but persistent Friendster guy called about my suggestion to go to the movies tomorrow. Since I hadn't heard back from him until today, I had already made plans with my parents. So instead, I offered to do something tonight.
He agreed but didn't want to accept the fact that I had already eaten dinner. He wanted me to order an appetizer while he ate. I said no, he should eat and I would meet him at the movie theater. He reluctantly agreed, and I took the opportunity to tell him that I wasn't looking to date anyone right now and just wanted to make a friend. He paused for a while and said that was what he wanted too. "Isn't that the whole idea of Friendster?" he asked.
Okay. Good. Same page.
His movie suggestion was Jackass: Number Two. Eh. I still really want to see Little Miss Sunshine, but agreed to his choice. Needless to say, the movie was even more outrageous than the first. This one was a little hard to stomach, and I'm not usually squeamish. Let's just say that number two isn't just a reference to it being the sequel. 'nuff said.
It made for a very awkward viewing experience. He started apologizing about halfway through and asked me if I wanted to leave. I was fine, but I felt bad for persistent guy.
I felt even worse when I told him after the movie that I wasn't up for doing anything else. I wasn't at all in the mood to drink, and I really just wanted to get home. I said maybe we could do something another time, but I think that's going to be it. The conversation was much more awkward tonight, but maybe it's my fault for shooting the guy down before we even went anywhere. I give him credit for still following through.
My night ended with me missing my exit. I got off at the next one and ended up driving aimlessly for a few miles. Eventually I just had to turn around.
Today I felt like I was driving and could not get anywhere.

I'm trying to figure out the name of a cartoon (anime dubbed into Spanish) that I used to watch in Colombia...
I think the main character was named "Galactico". The premise was that the has his two friends had to return some princess to the other side of the universe. They each has their own individualized weapon and little space ship, that sort of looked like space convertibles or motorcycles. His thing was that he had these two little sticks that he kept in holsters that when he'd connect them together would form this giant battle staff, sort of like a big Q-tip. His his one friend had a pony tail and this rifle that shot tridents. His other friend was a a little overweight. And the hero had this thing on his head, that was sort of like a crown, but it meant that he had to do whatever the princess wanted him to do. It followed all the classic anime cliches, he, being the hero, had the primary colors of red/white and was brown-haired and a little hot tempered. His one friend, the one with the pony tail, had dark hair and his color were blue/black and he was the brooding, silent type. The fat friend, his color were a dark/light green, and he had orange hair and he was the happy-go-lucky one. And the princess, had long blond hair and her color was pink. (similar cartoons that used this colors were G-Force, Voltron (with the lions), Star Blazers and King Arthur). Anyhow, do you remember the name of any of the characters or the name of the show or anything?
You'd be surprised what you can find on Wikipedia. While procrastinating, I found entries for: Mazinger Z, Voltron with the lions, Voltron with the cars, Speed Racer, Star Blazers, King Arthur, Thundarr the Barbarian, Flash Gordon, G-Force. I dabbled a little in some of the recent ones: GI Joe, Batman, Transformers, but not too much. They have a lot of material. I was more interested in some of the older ones. Aside: Did you know that the guy who did the voice for Panthro (of the ThunderCats) is the same guy who played Bill Cosby's dad on the Cosby Show? Oh, and that Nancy McKeon (Jo form the Facts of life) was a guest voice on Thundarr the Barbarian? And Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) does the voice of the Joker on Batman the animated series? But I'm rambling. Basically all the ones I could remember, I could identify except for the one with that "Galactico" character. I'm going to try for a while, and then go to bed, I guess.
(About five minutes later...)
I figured it out. That was anti-climactic. It's called "Starzinger". And the Spanish name was indeed "El Galactico". So there.
