God said, "Let there be dresses, drinks, and dancing," and it was good.
Last night the graduate student association hosted a Winter Ball at the Colonnade Hotel. They had one last year too, but I didn't go. The ladies and I got all gussied up and went last night: see the photo. Yes, graduate students can look hot too! I worried about how well I would fare for the evening, because I hadn't eaten anything all day and planned on having quite a few drinks.
Almost as soon as we walked in the door, we got some drinks and hit the dance floor. And that's where we stayed the entire evening. When I say, "hit the dance floor," I mean that both figuratively and literally, because I did in fact hit it at one point. I was dancing with Vixen and E when all of a sudden I was sitting on the floor. My legs folded back under me as if I were posing for a picture. But I did not feel cute or graceful. Vixen laughed her head off about it. I felt like a fool, but dusted myself off and kept right on dancing. I'm not sure how much the alcohol was a factor in my falling down; I like to think that I'm a more composed drunkard than that. ;-)
We all had a blast and brought a whole new meaning to the phrase "dancing queen." K's friend, Nabil, danced with me for a song and he said that K and I needed to teach him how to dance southern style, because we know "how to get down." I'm not actually southern, but I'll take the compliment! Most of us are either single or had left the bfs at home, and it made it that much more fun. :-) Yay for having an excuse to get dressed up, dance our heads off, and go crazy. My body feels like it does after a hard workout at the gym. Who needs a treadmill when you can go dancing?
I've had a very unproductive weekend as far as work goes, but I don't feel guilty...yet. I have a ton to read and need to comment on my students' papers. But I'm still going to spend most of tomorrow with CK and friends drinking beer and watching the super bowl. I don't really watch football, or care about either of the teams playing...but it should be a good time! And of course I'll have my eye out for a cute boy. ;-)

B fell because she couldn't handle my hotness.
You don't care about Seattle? Sniff...sniff...Sigh. ;)
Sorry Kim! I didn't have a team loyalty for yesterday's game...but I was with a group of crazy Steelers fans. I care about you, though ;-)
I'm totally doing the booby push in that picture. Someone should stop me.
Nah, K; you gotta shake (and push) what your mama gave you! You tore it up on the dance floor. :-)
